I'm just kidding. grover and his trollish behavior is welcome here. ;)

CHAVEZ AND CROSBY UPDATE
Susan Slusser writes:

Manager Ken Macha suggested Sunday at Papago Park that Chavez might DH every other day in order to rest his chronically sore right shoulder (as a preventative measure), and the third baseman might sit on back-to-back days if need be. Crosby, Oakland's shortstop, will be brought along even more slowly. Crosby threw at a distance of 120 feet Sunday ("Best I've felt,'' he said), but he, too, might serve as designated hitter from time to time.

More items of interest from the same link:

  • Harden will throw to batters today, and his next outing could be in a simulated game. Harden is now participating in all fielding drills.
  • Gerald Perry was pleased with Thomas' second day in the batting cage.
  • Of the new pitchers, Chad Gaudin has drawn the most notice.
  • Dan Meyer, Shane Komine and Adam Johnson will pitch against South Africa on Saturday. Don't expect to see many regulars in that game.

He's a gamer.
He could have sat out the final year on his contract, earned $6m, Albert Belle style, and worked on his tan.

Instead he played through pain to earn a scrimmage save, then offered to coach, play in the minors, do whatever it takes to help the club.

Should be more like him.

sorry if this already got quoted over the weekend
I don't recall seeing this exact blurb in any of the places where "the end of Bradley's silence" was being discussed...

Susan Slusser's Sunday notebook included this:

Bradley speaks: When new outfielder Milton Bradley arrived in camp, he suggested he would not talk to the media all spring, but on Saturday he was accommodating to all. First Bradley spent 20 minutes or more signing autographs, and then he spent 15 minutes taking questions from reporters, with the stipulation that the topics stuck to baseball and the A's, who he called "the team to beat."

Relaxed and pleasant, Bradley said he isn't even thinking about his surgically repaired left knee. His goal for the season is to stay healthy because in past years, when he has set goals, "anytime I get close, I get injured."

When asked if he plans to take on a leadership role, Bradley said, "I plan on getting in right field - not have opinions, not cause problems, just go with the flow."

I bolded my favorite parts to prove that I actually am not just a picky ol' scrutinizing meany... ;)

Warnings from Williams
"Earlier this month, White Sox general manager Ken Williams sent a warning to the Oakland Athletics' camp that Frank Thomas needed to shut up about White Sox business."

I'm beginning to pine for the days when the Yankees were World Champs after the out of control ego displayed by the White Sox, Red Sox, and Angels.  What makes Kenny Williams think he can control what former players say to the media.  Frank is ours now, and he has every right to speak about how he was treated.  A warning? I wish Mr. Beane just picked up the phone and told Mr. Williams to suck it.  If we are lucky enough to win it all in 06, I hope that afterwards, we had the class to not act like spoiled brats.

"We've added a little more bling to it, so to speak," Macha said.

by eshock on Feb 27, 2006 12:45 PM PST   0 recs

...to the playing field, and probably not even there. Sorry Kenny, didn't the A's slightly own the White Sox in your championship year?
